Alexander Kotovich ( Belorussian Alyaksandar Katowich , Polish Aleksander Kotowicz ; born around 1622 , Grodno Povet - 11/30/1668, Vilna ) - religious and church figure of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania , Smolensk Catholic bishop from 1673 , Vilnius from 1685 .

Biography
At the Vilna Jesuit Academy, he received a master 's degree in philosophy (1644), then he studied theology and canon law there . He was a canon of Smolensk, then studied at the University of Padua . In 1657 he became the canon of Vilnius. He was the royal secretary; during the Russo-Polish War of 1654–1667, in 1658 he was Ambassador of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth to Prince Yuri Dolgoruky , commander of the Russian army, in 1671 he accompanied the embassy of Jan Gninsky to Moscow as secretary. As a reward he was appointed bishop of Smolensk.
In 1684 he was appointed bishop of Vilnius. He took care of the Vilnius Cathedral , repaired it, and dying, bequeathed all his means to the cathedral.
He wrote “Constitutiones et Decreta Synodi Dioecesis Vilnensis” ( Vilna , 1681) and “Listy pasterskie do kaznodziejów dyjecezyi wileńskiéj” (Vilna, 1685) [1] . Most of his writings were published shortly before his death.
