Biography and Creativity
She grew up in small towns in Canada, where her father served in banks. She studied at the University of Toronto , where she received bachelor's and master's degrees in classics, defended her thesis on the work of Sappho . She also attended St. Andrews University with C. Dover . Carson is a teacher of classical languages and literature at universities in Canada and the United States, translator Simonida , Sappho, Aeschylus , Sophocles , Euripides , Catullus . She introduces classical mythology in her poems, connecting Simonides with Celan , Sappho with Gertrude Stein , and Plato with Keats .
Recognition
Creativity Carson praised Harold Bloom and Susan Sontag . She is the winner of the Pushkart Prize ( 1997 ), the Griffin and Eliot Prizes (both 2001 ), the Pen Club Prize for Poetic Translation ( 2010 ), was awarded the Order of Canada ( 2005 ), as well as many other literary awards and distinctions. The poems and essays by Carson are translated into French, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Polish, Russian.
Based on the book "Creation" ( eng. Decreation ) about the medieval nun- runner Margarita Poretanskaya and Simone Weyl staged William Forsythe ballet of the same name (2007). Verses Carson from the book Men in the Off Hours created a multimedia performance by Canadian composer Linda Bouchard Killer Little World (2009). Lyrics Carson also put on music by Michelle van der Aa .
Honorary Doctor of Literature at the University of St. Andrews (2014) [3] .
