Several times he was a minister, and in 1863 he became president of the ministry and had to assume the ungrateful role of waging with insufficient means of the German-Danish war .
After an unfortunate outcome, her Monrad moved to New Zealand, lost his possessions there during the war with the Maori, returned to Denmark and again was a bishop and member of the Folketing. In addition to the sermons and translations of Job and Isaiah, he printed: “Liberalismens Gjenmaele til Bishop Martenssens sociale Ethik” (1878), “Politiske Breve” (1874–82), “Das alte Neuseeland” (2nd ed., Norden, 1885) and “ Laurentius Valla und das Konzil zu Florenz ”(Gotha, 1881).
