Biography

Lilia Isquierdo won her first “gold” at the international level in 1985 in Milan at the World Youth Championship . The following year, the 19-year-old volleyball player made her debut in the national team of Cuba at the Central American and Caribbean Games and played for her for 14 years (with minor interruptions). During this time, Isquierdo won a record number of “gold” competitions of the highest international level - the Olympic Games (three times), the World Championships (twice) and the World Cup (four times). These indicators are repeated only by another athlete from the great Cuban team of the 1990s - Regla Bell . Taking into account other competitions of world and continental level, Isquierdo has 24 awards of highest dignity.

Until 1998, at the club level, Iscierdo played for Cuba's strongest team - Ciudad Habana. Since January 1999, for two seasons, she played in the Italian championship for teams from Florence and Palermo . After the end of the 2000 Olympics , at which Isquierdo became a three-time Olympic champion, the volleyball player completed her playing career.
