Toshio Shiratori ( Japanese 白鳥 敏夫 ; June 8 , 1887 , Chiba - June 3, 1949 , Tokyo , Japan ) - Japanese diplomat, Ambassador of Japan to Italy (1938-1940), Sweden and Finland (1933-1936); one of fourteen Class A war criminals venerated in the Yasukuni Shrine .

Biography
From 1929 to 1933 he was director of the information bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan .
From 1933 to 1933 he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Sweden and a non-resident ambassador to Finland.
From 1938 to 1940 he was appointed Japanese Ambassador to Italy, and in 1940 he became an adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. A supporter of military expansionism, he advised the alliance of Nazi Germany , Italy and Japan to promote their world domination.
In November 1948, the International Military Tribunal in the Far East was found guilty of conspiracy to wage an aggressive war and sentenced to life imprisonment [1] .
June 3, 1949 he died in prison from cancer of the larynx .
October 17, 1978 was one of the fourteen class “A” war criminals controversial in the list of Yasukuni revered in the sanctuary [2] . In a note from Emperor Hirohito disclosed in 2006, it was discovered that the emperor had stopped visiting Yasukuni Shrine from 1978 until his death in 1989 due to the fact that “they [ there ] even secured [ to honor ] Matsuoku and Shiratori”.
