Marlik is a burial ground in northern Iran, located in the valley of the Goharrud River, which flows into Sefidrud in the province of Gilan .
During the excavations, which were carried out from 1961 to 1962, the tsar’s cemetery was discovered, which remained untouched for 3000 years. A total of fifty-three tombs were discovered. In chambers ranging in size from 1.5 x 1 × 1 m to 7 x 4.5 × 2.5 m, several thousand pieces of art were found, including several hundred made of gold. Among the most famous finds is a golden goblet depicting winged bulls. In particular, similarities with finds from the Sialk burial ground were discovered.
Robbery and smuggling led to the completion of research.
