Biography

Birth and early years

Felice Pedroni was born April 16, 1858 in a family of farmers engaged in subsistence farming in the small village of Trignano ( Italian: Trignano ), which is part of the commune of Fanano of the Duchy of Modena . Felice was the youngest among his six brothers. In 1881, after the death of the father of the family, he leaves the house and goes to New York, where he takes the name in the Latin American manner - Felix Pedro. In the United States, he traveled a lot, moving from one city to another in search of work, until in the mid-1890s he arrived in Alaska [1] .

Gold Vein Opening

In 1899, Pedro went for the first time in search of gold veins and, in his personal words, found one of them, but could not set up a camp and explore the area properly due to running out of supplies and provisions. After that, he was forced to return to a nearby settlement for food and in 1901, along with his partner Tom Gilmore ( English Tom Gilmore ) went back to the previously discovered gold mine [2] . However, having made a journey of 165 miles (more than 265 km) in August of the same year, they were forced to stop searching and go to replenish supplies of the Circle settlement. The success of the next journey of Pedro and Gilmore was successful, when on July 28, 1902 they discovered a gold mine near the hills of Tanana ( English Tanana Hills ). With their discovery, they launched a large influx of gold prospectors into this region, which was called the Fairbanks Gold Rush. The next gold mine was discovered by Pedro in 1903 off the coast of Clear Creek, a tributary of the Nenana River [3] .

Death

Felix Pedro died July 22, 1910 at the age of 52 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Fairbanks, according to the official version of a heart attack. Nevertheless, his business partner Vincenzo Gambiani insisted that Pedro did not suffer from heart problems and accused the companion's wife of poisoning her husband [4] .

Pedro's body was embalmed and sent to San Francisco and buried in Colma, San Mateo County , California [5] . The remains of Pedro were exhumed on October 12, 1972 and transported to Italy, where an autopsy and analysis of the composition of the hair showed that he was still killed. The reburial ceremony was held in a small cemetery in Fanano [4] .
