Biography
In 1947 he graduated from the law faculty of Cairo University ; during a six-month prison sentence, met Anwar Sadat . Both of them belonged to the anti-British movement Hizb Misr al-Fatah, whose representatives were accused of the murder on Adli Street in central Cairo of the former Minister of Finance of the party’s government Wafd Amin Osman Pasha.
After the establishment of the republican system, he worked for a short time in the Ministry of Justice, and since 1958 transferred to the diplomatic service. He worked in offices in London, Mexico City, Ottawa and Montreal.
- 1969-1972 - Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo,
- 1972-1973 - Ambassador to Sweden
- 1973-1977 - Ambassador to Germany.
From December 1977 to September 1978 - Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt. While in this post, he participated in the negotiations on the conclusion of the Camp David Accords , and resigned before signing.
In June 1985, he was appointed the first chairman of the Egyptian human rights organization, which was declared illegal by the government.
