Issyk-Kul International Airport ( Kyrgyz. Issyk-Kul el aralik airport ; IATA: IKU ICAO: UCFL (formerly: UAFR [1] , UAFL )) is an airport in the village of Tamchy , Issyk-Kul Oblast , Kyrgyz Republic . The airport has international status. In 2016, the Issyk-Kul International Airport received the IATA code - IKU . The airport began operations in 1975 as a backup airfield for the nearby Cholpon-Ata Airport (it does not exist now). The runway and terminal were built in 2003.
The airport operates around the clock, located 35 km west of the city of Cholpon-Ata and 5 km east of the village of Tamchy, belongs to the 4D class (according to the ICAO classification). The airport is located at an altitude of 1653.8 m, the length of the runway 3800 m, width - 45 m. Type of coverage: reinforced concrete. The airport has 7 aircraft parking lots.
The Issyk-Kul Airport was reconstructed in 2016, in particular, new modern light-signaling equipment, an ILS instrumental landing system, meteorological equipment were installed, the power supply system was modernized, the terminal was reconstructed, the runway was extended, and much more. The airport is allowed to operate around the clock from August 29, 2016.
