The name of the settlement comes from the Red Devil mercury mine, founded in 1921 by Hans Halverson. The post office was opened in 1957. The mine functioned until 1971 [1] .

According to the US Census Bureau, the area of ​​the statistically isolated area is 68.3 km², of which 5.7 km² is open water. The river Cuskokuim flows through Red Devil.

According to the 2010 census , the area had a population of 23 people (52.2% of men and 47.8% of women), there were 12 households and 5 families. In the area there were 23 buildings with an average density of 0.37 buildings per square kilometer of land. Racial composition : white - 17.4%, the indigenous population of America - 43.5%, mixed race - 39.1% [2] .

The population of the city by age range according to the 2010 census was as follows: 21.7% - residents under 18 years of age, 4.4% - between 18 and 21 years old, 47.8% - from 21 to 65 years old and 26.1% - at the age of 65 years and older. The average age of the population is 50.5 years. For every 100 females in Red Devil, there are 109.1 males, while for 100 adult females there are already 100.0 males of comparable age [2] .

Of the 12 households, 41.7% were families: 25.0% of couples living together; 8.3% are women living without husbands and 8.3% are men living without wives. 58.3% did not have a family. On average, 1.92 people live in households, and the average family size is 3.00 people. 50.0% of the population lived alone, 25.0% were single elderly people (over 65) [2] .
