Career

At the 1980 Olympics, he won gold in swimming 100 meters on his back , ahead of two Soviet athletes - Viktor Kuznetsov and Vladimir Dolgov [1] . At a distance of 200 meters could not reach the final.

At the next Olympics, together with Thomas Leidstrom , Per Johansson and Mikael Ern, became a bronze medalist in the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay. At distances of 100 meters on the back and butterfly, as well as in the combined relay 4 × 100 meters in the finals, he occupied 6th, 8th and 5th places, respectively.

In 1982, he won two bronze medals at the World Cup .

Personal life

He was married to Swedish swimmer Agnete Mortensson , silver medalist of the 1980 Olympics in the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay. He has two daughters.
