Story
The novel takes place in 1980 and 1990 - 1991 .
On May 10, 1980, a tragedy of "regional scale" occurred on Kolya Gora in the Basmanny district. The bus was mysteriously flattened on an unknown object. All died, except for two young people: Sergey Dronov and Robert Darnovsky. Before the collision, the guys could only see the White Column - a brightly glowing object that appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the road. As a result of the disaster, each of them had their own unique ability: Robert hears the thoughts of people when he looks into their eyes, and Sergey is able to move 4 times faster than an ordinary person.
After 10 years, during which the heroes were able, using their abilities, to achieve certain successes in life, fate again brings Sergey and Robert together. Both of them fall in love with a dumb girl, who also appeared on May 10 at the crash site. Marianne (for Sergei the girl’s name is Maria, and for Robert - Anna) also has the gift, she “sees” what people have in their hearts, “sees” their thoughts.
The fight between the heroes over the girl ends with the abduction of Marianne by unknown forces. Robert and Sergey unite to search and find her in one of the laboratories owned by the KGB , but they themselves fall into the trap.
Colonel Vasiliev, who awoke the heroes from a long chemical sleep, explains that the reason for the KGB's interest in them lies in the unusual abilities that each of the heroes possesses. It turns out that these abilities are obtained from Migrants - aliens who want to take over our planet. The task of Sergei, Marianne and Robert is to use their abilities to counter migrants, especially since the situation in the USSR is also the work of alien invaders. Sergey agrees without hesitation. However, Robert hesitates, as Marianne said that, according to her feelings, Migrants do not pursue destructive goals. Robert gets into the car and rushes to the scene of the disaster, from which the whole story began, and crashes into the same White Column - a ray of “living” light, an alien phenomenon that gave the heroes their abilities.
