Klimovichi ( Belorussian. Klimavichy ) is a city in Belarus , the administrative center of the Klimovichi district of the Mogilev region .

The population of the city as of January 1, 2016 amounted to 16,445 residents [2] . Klimovichi is located 124 km east of Mogilev , on the Kalinitsa River.

History

Klimovichi was first mentioned in historical documents in 1581 as a small settlement in the Mstislavsky Voivodeship of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania .

In 1626, the Monastery of Dominicans was opened in Klimovichi.

From 1720 they belonged to the Beletsky family, from 1758 to the Golynsky .

Since 1772, as part of the Russian Empire , a county town since 1777, the coat of arms was granted to the city in 1781.

In the 1850s, there were three tanneries in Klimovichi, 5 elementary schools, a hospital, a pharmacy, and a library.

According to the 1897 census, there are 4,706 residents in Klimovichi, including 2,306 Belarusians, 2,260 Jews, 105 Russians [4] .

In May 1921, a railway station was opened in the city of Klimovichi on the Orsha - Unecha line .

 

In 1924, Klimovichi became the administrative center of the newly formed Kalinin District and the Klimovichi District .

In 1939, there were 9.6 thousand inhabitants in Klimovichi.

During the Great Patriotic War, the city ​​was occupied by Nazi troops and was liberated in September 1943.

After the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in 1986, the city fell into the zone affected by radioactive contamination.

Education

The city has three secondary schools, a gymnasium (former secondary school No. 2) and an elementary school (former Klimovichi boarding school).

There is also an agricultural college that provides training for specialists with secondary specialized education. The educational and material base of the college allows training specialists at a high level. Today, boys and girls from various regions of the Republic, as well as from Russia, are studying at the educational institution. Teach students in the following specialties:

  • technical support of agricultural production processes (full-time and part-time);
  • livestock (full-time and part-time);
  • veterinary medicine (day time) .

On August 1, 2017, the agricultural college was combined with vocational lyceum No. 14 and the department of Vocational Education opened .

Industry

  • OJSC Klimovichi Distillery . The plant is located on the banks of the river Lobzhanka. Built in 1858. Today, the plant produces rectified Lux ​​alcohol and raw alcohol, vodka, balms, tinctures, liqueurs, fruit wines, fruit juices, cognacs, brandy, drinking and sparkling water.
  • Klimovichi bakery products OJSC. The construction of the KHP began in 1983. Products exported by the enterprise: wheat flour (premium, first grade, second grade); rye flour (peeled and seeded); rapeseed oil.
  • State Unitary Enterprise "Klimovichsky Lime Plant". The company operates in the building materials industry.
  • OJSC "Mstislavl butter-making and cheese-making factory". The OJSC also includes a branch in this city, where the milk powder workshop operates. The plant’s capacities allow it to produce per day: 8 tons of animal oil, 3.5 tons of hard cheeses, up to 3.5 tons of casein, 7 tons of skimmed milk powder.
  • RUPE "Mogilevkhlebprom" branch of the Klimovichi bakery. The types of activities include: the production of mineral waters and other soft drinks; production of bread and bakery products; production of flour confectionery products of non-durable storage. The branch issues muffins or pies; cookies or buns; fresh bread
