Early Years and Education
Inhibjörg Bjarnason was born on December 14, 1867 in the city of Thingeyri, one of the five children of the merchant Hakon Bjarnason [1] and Johanna Cristina Torisdottir (Þorleifsdóttir). After the death of his father, Inhibjerg goes to Reykjavik, where he enters the Women's College ( Kvennaskólinn ). [2] After graduating from college in 1882 he moved to Denmark , does gymnastics there, and becomes the first Icelandic gymnast. The inhibitor returns to Reykjavik, and since 1893 the girl has been working as a gymnastics coach in one of the schools. In 1902, Bjarnason became a teacher at the Women's College, and four years later became the director of the college. This position Inhibjörg Bjarnason takes up the rest of his life. [one]
Political career
Bjarnason begins to take an active part in women's independence movements back in Iceland in 1894. Inhibierg was elected head of the committee, which in 1930 built the National Hospital ( Landspítali ) with his own money in honor of the suffragist’s victory. In 1922, Bjarnason was elected to the parliament of Iceland. [1] In 1924, Inhibjörg became a member of the Conservative Party of Iceland ( Íhaldsflokkurinn ), and remained in the party until 1927. Career after politics
After the completion of political activity, Bjarnason continues to take an active part in the Women's Liberation Movement. In 1930, Inhibierg became chairman of the women's organization Kvenfélagasambands Íslands. The activities of Bjarnason are often criticized for supporting the Conservative Party, for the creation of economics schools. Some feminists also disagreed with Inhibjerg that women achieved full equality by obtaining suffrage in 1915. [3]
From 1928 to 1932, Bjarnason worked on the committee of the National Bank ( Landsbanki ), was a member of the Icelandic Council for Education from 1928 to 1934. [3]

Inhibjörg Bjarnason died on October 30, 1941. [3]
In 2011, a vote was taken at the Reykjavik City Council to erect a monument to Inhibjörg Bjarnason. [2] In July 2012, a celebration was held in Althing dedicated to the ninetieth anniversary of Bjarnason’s entry into parliament. [four]
