Phasmodes

Phasmodes (lat.) - a genus of grasshoppers , the only one in the monotypic subfamily Phasmodinae Caudell, 1912 . Endemic to Australia [2] .

Distribution

Found in Western Australia [3] [4] .

Description

Body length 5–6 cm. Hind femur about 3 cm long. Egg length about 6 mm [5] . The pronotum is long, the body is rod-shaped, convergent similar to sticks ; live and feed on flowers. Eggs are laid in the ground. Head with a narrow rostrum between the bases of the antennae and weakly pronounced tubercles on it, prognathic. Spikes and tubercles on sternitis of the chest are absent. Acoustic stigma not covered by a pronotum, small in size. Legs are laser, long and thin; hind legs non-hopping. Wings are not developed [3] [6] [7] .
