Vladimir Matveyevich Lunya ( lit. Vladimiras Lunia ; June 22, 1906 , Shileli - November 15, 1992 , Vilnius ) - Soviet military commander of the 167th Infantry Regiment of the 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division during the Great Patriotic War ( Colonel ); Honored Worker of Culture of the Lithuanian SSR (1976).

Biography
Born June 22, 1906 in Shileli (now Shilale). Byelorussian. He graduated in 1927 from a teacher’s seminary in Taurag , and has served in the Lithuanian army since 1930. In 1932 he graduated from the Kaunas Military School.
In the Soviet army since 1940, in November 1940 he was appointed adjutant to the chief of staff of the 29th Rifle Corps , then appointed director of the Vilnius Military Infantry School. On the front of World War II from June 22, 1941, from 1942 he served in the 16th Lithuanian Rifle Division, rose to the rank of deputy regiment commander. In 1943 he graduated from the MV Frunze Military Academy in Moscow, in 1944 he was admitted to the CPSU (b) [1] and then sent to the 16th Infantry Division, where he was appointed commander of the 156th Infantry Regiment. In February 1944, with 23 colleagues, he sent an appeal to the officers of the army of the Republic of Lithuania with an appeal to end cooperation with the Germans and not to oppose the Soviet troops.
In 1945, Vladimir Lunya was promoted to colonel, after the war he served as regiment commander and deputy division commander. He taught at the military department at Vilnius State University, from 1961 to 1982 he worked in the Council of Ministers of the Lithuanian SSR [2] [3] .
He was awarded the orders of the Red Star (July 12, 1944), World War I (September 21, 1944) and II degrees (July 13, 1945), the Red Banner (October 28, 1944) [4] . In 1976, he was awarded the title of Honored Worker of Cultural and Educational Work of the Lithuanian SSR, and 10 years later he was awarded the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Lithuanian SSR [5] .
He died on November 15, 1992 in Vilnius.
