Biography

Having started his career as a poor teacher in a theological school, he subsequently held a number of high posts: he was the cadi of Mecca , the chief minister of Mecca and Medina, and others. For some time he was patronized by Mahmoud II and his entourage. Izzet Molla was distinguished by bold and frank statements about the domestic and foreign policy of Turkey.

Supporter ideas of Sufism .

Supporting the transformations undertaken by the Sultan , he strongly condemned the “wrong order” in the country. A skilled orator , he dared, in the presence of the monarch at the Majlis, to ridicule the dignitaries who fought for the war with Russia (1828-1829) and blindly believed in victory. He joined a small group of those who considered the defeat of the Turks inevitable, argued to the Sultan the benefit of peace in general and good neighborly relations with Russia.

The poet paid for his courage of his own life with his own life - in 1828 he was sent into exile and poisoned there.

Creativity

One of the last representatives of classical Ottoman poetry, the author of gazelles and kasis , created in his youth and in his mature years, and collected in sofas: “Reflections on Spring” (“Bahar-i efkâr”), “Autumn of Creations” (“Hazan-i asar "). Using the elements of a lively spoken language, the author tried to make his poetry accessible to the understanding of a wide range of readers.

The desire to simplify the syntax and facilitate the perception of meaning is marked by the Sufi (in fact and figurative system) his small poem “Flower Garden of Love”.

The essay “Suffering in Keshan” (“Mihnet-i Keșan”, 1825), which combines various poetic and prosaic genres and is at the origin of the Turkish novel, brought genuine fame to the poet. In this story-journey in verse (8 thousand bayts) and partly in prose, the plot frames are the events associated with Izzet Mall’s first reference: his way to Keshan (a town in the south of Eastern Thrace), a one-year stay there and returning to Istanbul.

In the course of the story about the twists and turns of his personal fate, the author critically, sometimes in a sharp satirical manner, or with sad humor, talks about the life of the country, about the life and customs of various circles of society in the capital and the province.

He paints pictures of the barbarity of the provincial life, the lawlessness of the authorities, etc. At the same time, the poet notes that in the service he himself always exposed the embezzlers and other dishonest people. The book is imbued with a keen sense of citizenship.

Creativity Izzet Molly - evidence of the gradual transition of Turkish literature from medieval canons to the traditions of the New Age.
