One of his most famous novels is Agaguk, the history of the cultural conflict between the Eskimos and the whites. The Eskimo tribe (or, as they call themselves, Inuit) lives in the tundra with its traditional life, but the “white man” is penetrating it more and more. White people buy skins from Inuit from hunting, and in return they sell weapons, salt, and alcohol. Inuit themselves did not notice how they turned out to be dependent on “white people”; they are no longer able to do without them and their goods.
Based on the scripts and works of the author, a number of films were shot, including “Here and Now” (1980), “Shadow of the Wolf” (1992)
