Geographical position
The village of Uzhovo is located on the Oksko-Don plain on the right bank of the Tsna River , 28 km northeast of the city of Shatsk . The distance from the village to the regional center of Shatsk by road is 32 km.
The river Tsna flows to the west of the village, a small lake is located to the north, the mouth of the Vyazovka River and Losiny Island (Tamansky), to the east and southeast - a large forest. The nearest settlements are the villages of Yambirno , Inna Sloboda and the village of Lesnaya Sloboda .

According to the 2010 census, 68 people are permanently living in the village of Uzhovo. (in 1992, 129 people [4] ).
Name Origin
The name of the settlement comes from the name of the snake. The fact that one of the most common snakes in the middle band is a zoological fact. But it’s hard to say why this reptile attracted the inhabitants of the village when choosing a name. Probably in the area in the old days there were many snakes or snakes in general. [5]
History
In the documents of the XIX century. Uzhovo was considered a village , that is, a settlement in which, in the absence of a church, there was a courtyard of the landowner. [6]
By 1911, according to A.E. Andrievsky , the village of Uzhovo belonged to the parish of the Transfiguration Church in the village of Kashkovo-Rakovo (nowadays. Sasovsky district ) and there were 40 yards in which 164 male and 177 female souls lived. Most of the forest in the vicinity of the village belonged to the Naryshkin nobles. [7]
On the eastern outskirts of the village of Uzhovo, there was a Norman noble estate with a manor house. The estate counted only 708 dess. land, of which 318 dess. arable land (including 78 dessiatines for sowing), 254 dessiatines. forests and 132 dess. meadows; there were 11 horses, 3 cows and 2 pigs. The estate was managed by a manager, 5 permanent and 8 temporary employees. [8]
Transport
The main cargo and passenger transportation is carried out by road. The federal highway M-5 Ural passes through the southern outskirts of Uzhovo: Moscow - Ryazan - Penza - Samara - Ufa - Chelyabinsk.
