Ascent
The first ascent to the University was carried out in 1955 through the northern ridge. The group was led by Keith Hart from the University of Alaska . The group itself consisted of five people: Gibson Reynolds (Columbia University), Leon Bloomer (Sydney), Tim Kelly ( University of Washington ), Sheldon Brooks ( Pacific Lutheran University ) and Norman Sanders (also from the University of Alaska). Climbers began climbing at the foot of the Hawkins Glacier and climbed to a height of approximately 3,000 meters in the western part of the ridge. Since then, it is this route that is recommended for all climbers who want to conquer the University, but there is a risk of an avalanche on this route. The difficulty category for this route is Alaska 2+ .
The route ( Alaska 5 ) along the eastern part of the University (from the Barnard Glacier) is much more difficult; Carlos Buhler and Charlie Sassar were the first to successfully pass this route in 1997 .
