Egor Fedorovich Urlaub (Urlab) , nee Johann Georg Christian Urlaub ( German: Johann-Georg-Christian Urlaub ; 1845-1914), is a Russian historical painter and genre painter of Bavarian origin [1] , academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts .

Biography and Creativity
The son of a Bavarian subject, an enamel painter, was born in St. Petersburg in 1844. Having received general education at the School at the local German Reformed Church, in 1860 he entered the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts , in 1869 he went abroad and took lessons from A. von Werner , and in the same year he was awarded the Academy with a small gold medal for writing according to the program the picture "Job and his friends." In 1871 he received a large gold medal for the execution of the program βResurrection of the daughter of Jairusβ (located at the Museum of the Academy ), and he was allowed, to acquire the right to be sent abroad as a pensioner of the Academy, to present her with a picture written on a theme that he himself chosen, but in 1872 he went abroad at his own expense. In 1877 he was enrolled in the pensioners of the Academy, and in 1879 for the paintings βThe Burial of the Scandinavian Warriorβ , βConfessionβ , βBoyarinβ ( Tretyakov Gallery ), βSick Childβ , βSpy in Custodyβ and βFalconryβ he was elevated to academician title [1] .
Since 1881, he permanently resided abroad. Of his works, besides the ones mentioned, the most significant are: βA scene from the Thirty Years War β (1884) and β Sancho Panza as Governorβ . [one]
