Biography

In the Soviet Army since 1958. He graduated from the Omsk Higher Combined Arms Command School named after M.V. Frunze in 1962. He served in command posts in the Turkestan military district : platoon commander, company commander, battalion commander in the 162nd motorized rifle regiment .

He graduated from the Military Academy named after M.V. Frunze in 1971. From 1972, he was the chief of the operational division of the division’s headquarters in the Turkestan military district, from 1973, the chief of the division was the deputy commander of the regiment , and since 1974, he was the chief of the operational division and deputy chief of staff of the 58th motorized rifle division . Since 1975 - the commander of the 101st motorized rifle regiment ( Iolotan , Mary region , Turkmen SSR ). From 1977 to 1980 - chief of staff - deputy commander of the 58th motorized infantry division in the Turkestan military district ( Krasnovodsk ). In 1979-1980, as part of the division, he took part in the Afghan war [1] .

In 1982 he graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR named after K. E. Voroshilov . Since 1982 - Deputy Chief of the Operations Directorate of the Headquarters of the Southern Group of Forces ( Hungary ). Since 1985 - Deputy Chief, and since 1987 - Head of the Operations Directorate of the Main Command of the Southwest Command . A participant in the liquidation of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident as head of the operational department of the operational group of the USSR Ministry of Defense . Since 1989 - Deputy Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR .

Since July 1992 - Deputy Chief of the General Staff , and since September 1993 - First Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation [2] . From December 1993 to October 1996 he was a member of the interagency commission of the Security Council of the Russian Federation . In 1992, he developed a plan for a peacekeeping operation in Transnistria at the General Staff; on July 27 he was sent to Transnistria, where he participated in a peacekeeping operation during the Transnistrian armed conflict . Later, in June-October, he participated in the government delegation in negotiations with the Republic of Turkmenistan [3] [4] . Dismissed on October 1, 1996 [5] . In the same year, dismissed.

In the last years of his life, he published a series of memoirs about the events in Chernobyl and Transnistria. He died in Moscow. He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery .
