Mail Development
At first, Sint Maarten was controlled by the Dutch West Indies Company , but in 1791 was transferred to the Dutch crown and since 1848 was part of the Dutch colony of along with other colonial possessions of the Netherlands in the Caribbean [1] [3 ] ] .
On July 1, 1875, Sint Maarten was annexed to the UPU [2] .
The first post office was opened on Sint Maarten in the 1880s. This happened on January 1, 1882 in Philipsburg [4] . Initially, there were used postage stamps of Curacao and its dependent territories [1] :
standard brands of
1918: 1 cent ( Mi # 65; NVPH # 73) . "HAW" - the initials of the postmaster H. A. Willemsen
1943: overlooking Sint Maarten, 2½ cents
( Mi # 201; NVPH # 161)
Since 1948, after the colony was renamed the Netherlands Antilles , issues of the Netherlands Antilles were in circulation [1] .

1973: as part of the autonomous Netherlands Antilles, uniting six islands (indicated by six asterisks)
1998: as part of autonomy, uniting five islands after the exit of Aruba (indicated by five asterisks)
Sint Maarten began issuing its own postage stamps following the liquidation of the Netherlands Antilles in 2010.
In modern conditions, Sint Maarten is one of the five postal regions of the Kingdom of the Netherlands , but retains membership in the UPU separately from the Netherlands and together with two other islands of the former autonomous territory - Aruba and Curacao [2] . Postal services on the island are provided by Postal Service St. Maarten (Sint Maarten Postal Service; abbreviated PSS NV ).
Stamp Issues
First Marks
Having become a self-governing state entity, Sint Maarten issued its first own postage stamps on October 10, 2010. The first issue was devoted to obtaining self-government [1] . The first postage stamp showed a map of St. Martin Island [5] , which is the smallest inhabited island in the world, which is divided between two countries - Dutch Sint Maarten in the southern part of the island and French St. Martin in the north [6] . The denomination of postage stamps is indicated in the Netherlands Antillean guilders [≡] .
Subsequent Issues
Sint Maarten stamps published since 2010 present both national subjects and topics oriented to the philatelic market of subject collectors [1] .
