The 16th Motorized Infantry Brigade “Canarias” ( Spanish: Brigada “Canarias” XVI (BOP XVI) ) is a military unit in the Spanish Army .

Located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria ( Canary Islands ). It is under the authority of the Office of the Canary Islands ( Mando de Canarias ). Initially, the brigade was created on February 1, 2008 as the 16th light infantry brigade ( Brigada de Infantería Ligera XVI ) with a deployment in the Canary Islands and the designation "Canarias", abbreviated BRILCAN [1] . During the reorganization of the armed forces in 2015, the formation was transformed into a mechanized brigade with the inclusion of a light armored cavalry group ( Grupo Ligero Acorazado de Caballería ) from the 2nd Castillejos brigade ( Brigada de Caballería "Castillejos" II ), which includes wheeled wheels Centauro . Accommodation
Brigade units are located on the islands of Gran Canaria , Tenerife and Fuerteventura , with the exception of the cavalry group Milan, stationed in Marines ( Valencia ) [2] [8] . The Soria regiment is stationed in Puerto del Rosario on the island of Fuerteventura, the Tenerife regiment and some sappers are stationed in Hoya Fría in Tenerife, the artillery regiment is also located at Los Rodeos Airport, also in Tenerife. The remaining units are deployed at the General Aleman Ramirez base, located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria . [9]
Armament
The Kanarias brigade is one of four new wheeled motorized infantry brigades consisting of three motorized infantry battalions, an artillery battalion and one reconnaissance battalion (armored cavalry group). The Fuerteventura battalion is equipped with BMR , Serignola armored personnel carriers, mine-protected RG-31 Nyala and Albuera - Iveco LMV [7] . The armored cavalry group is armed with the BMW “ Centauro ” and the BRM VEC-M1 . In the distant future, it is planned to replace MRAP , BTR and BRM with a single platform with an 8 × 8 wheel formula. [10] [11]
