The monument to Juana Asurduy is located in Columbus Park , between Casa Rosada and Avenida La Rabida . It was opened on July 15, 2015, by the President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner and President Evo Morales from Bolivia, the latter, organized a donation of a million dollars for its construction. [1] Previously, there was a monument to Christopher Columbus (Buenos Aires) , removed June 29, 2013 and transferred to the Jorge Newbery airport . This is the work of the Argentine sculptor Andres Zerneri and is made of bronze, weighs 25 tons, its height is 9 meters, and is located on a step pedestal 7 meters high. Its construction took three years, 45 people participated in this. [1] The statue faces the continent. [2] The sculpture rests on a seven-meter pedestal, and symbolizes the pyramid of Tiahuanaco culture. Juana Asurduy holds a sword in his left hand, as a symbol of the liberation of the country. A woman is dressed in a poncho that imitates the clothes of the indigenous peoples of the country. [3] [4]
