History
In 1199, a community of Augustinian monks appeared on the island. In 1424, the monastery abandoned by the Augustinians was transferred to the Carthusian monks from Florence, hence the name of the island of La Certosa, that is, the Carthusian monastery. Ancient religious buildings on the island were restored in 1490-1505. After the Napoleonic conquest of Venice , a military base was established on La Certosa [1] [2] .
Redevelopment
In 2010, a project was launched called “Park on La Certosa” ( Italian: Parco della Certosa ). It was planned to rebuild the abandoned island, placing on its territory a public park, a maritime center and an educational institution, as well as restaurants, bars and sports facilities. The redevelopment was planned to be implemented in stages, having completed in 2015. However, on June 12, 2012, a tornado hit the island, causing major damage to it; mostly trees were affected. Restoration work began in the same 2012 [1] .
