History
For the first time, the World Motocross Championship was held in 1957 for motorcycles with an engine capacity of 500cm³. [1] Since 1962, a competition for 250 cc motorcycles began to be held, and since 1975 the class 125cm³ was added. From 1952 to 1956, the main competition was the European Championship.
In 2002, FIM changed the requirements for the engines used, following both the development of technologies in the motor industry and environmental requirements, according to which four-stroke internal combustion engines are considered more environmentally friendly. The MX1 became the premier class, allowing the participation of motorcycles with two-stroke engines with a volume of up to 250 cm³ and four-stroke ones with a volume of up to 450 cm³. MX2 class - two-stroke 125cm³ and four-stroke 250cm³, the former 500-cc class became the open MX3 class for two-stroke motors up to 500cm³ and four-stroke up to 650cm³. [one]
