Biography
Educated at the National Institute of Pedagogy (Universidad Pedagógica Nacional de Colombia), Normal Higher School of Preschool and Basic Education at the National University of Colombia and the Colombian National Institute of Technology, where in 1944 received a degree in anthropology.
She continued her studies in the field of social and medical anthropology at the graduate school of the University of California at Berkeley (1953-1954), in 1962 she defended a Ph.D. in social sciences and economics at the National University of Education.
Awards and Recognitions
- Medal to them. Camilo Torres (1963)
- In 1967 she was recognized as "Woman of the Year" in Colombia.
- In 1968 she was awarded the Alejandro Angel Escobar Prize.
- Inter-American Family Congress Medal (1983)
- In 2016, her image was placed on a Colombian banknote of 10,000 pesos.
