Owners

Until the 15th episode of season 14, the actual owner is Canary Burns. After that, Burns makes the owner of the station Homer Simpson , who immediately dismisses him. At the end of the series, Mr. Montgomery Burns becomes the owner.

Prior to this, Burns had argued over it with Rich Texan in the series The Seemingly Never-Ending Story , but then bought it back.

Also, in one of the episodes, the station was acquired by German businessmen, but at the end of the series, Mr. Burns buys it back from them at half price.

Master Data

In the 5th episode of season 3, an emergency occurred, and Homer began to read the station's operating instructions, which began with the words “Congratulations on the purchase of the 1952 Fissionator slow decay reactor” [1] , which suggests that the station was built in 1952 .

The station is in very poor condition, mainly due to the avarice of Mr. Burns, since bringing it to standards would cost him $ 57 million. The sanitary condition of the station is terrible. In various episodes, luminous rats are visible in the basements of the building, radioactive waste dripping from pipes, uranium used as a paperweight , cracks in cooling towers (in one episode they were covered with chewing gum ), extremely high Geiger counter readings around the station’s perimeter, and even giant spider. In the cartoon screen saver, the uranium rod falls into the collar of Homer, later he throws it onto the street.

The design and appearance of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant is based on a real prototype - the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant , which is located next to Matt Groening's hometown Portland . However, Antonia Koffman, a journalist collaborating with Graining, noted that the station’s appearance was accidental and that “the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant has nothing to do with the Troyan Station or any other station in the country.” [2] The Trojan Nuclear Plant was opened in 1976 , and was known for its not very reliable construction and maintenance, as a result of which the steam generator leaked, which ultimately caused the closure of the station in 1993 . The cooling towers of the Trojan station were finally demolished on May 21, 2006 . [3]

In the episode " The Seemingly Never-Ending Story ", Burns notes that the station's address is 100 Industrial Road.

Workers and employees

  • Charles Montgomery Monti Burns is a wealthy owner and CEO of a power plant. His name changes in seasons and series, which is shown in the series or in relation to Smithers and other employees of the nuclear power plant.
  • Waylon Smithers , Montgomery Burns personal assistant, his right hand. Although in fact it was he who took over the responsibilities of daily management of the station, his main job was to look after Mr. Burns and distract conversations from his most cruel and treacherous plans. Most people consider Smithers homosexual and do the right thing (Season 27 | Episode 17 - The Fire Cell | The Burns Cage). He won the "Best Worker of the Month" award almost every time, except for two cases - when Homer was fortunate enough to prevent a radioactive release, and when a coal rod saved Homer life in space.
  • Homer Jay Simpson , currently a security inspector in the 7-G sector, had previously worked at the station in various positions since the birth of his first child . He mainly works in the control room, sitting at the T-437 Security Management console , but does not particularly understand how to manage it (in various episodes he was successfully replaced by chicken, Bart and even a brick suspended on a rope). Most often, he lies in his waddle on his chair, sleeping or eating donuts. Homer was appointed to the position of Security Inspector, Mr. Burns, after in one of the episodes of the first season he was dismissed from the post of technical station controller for driving a forklift into a steam pipe. He often takes "sick leave" and time off when something interesting happens in the city. Usually the authorities do not even notice this. In See Homer Run , Smithters notes that Homer paid the homeless to sit at work instead. Although the safety of the station (and Springfield ) was repeatedly threatened by Homer's fault, he still hadn't lost his job. Homer takes the last line in the factory staff list, obeying even the graphite rod (see Deep Space Homer ), and holds the record as the person who worked for the longest time in the initial position without promotion. Homer is known for his work as his incompetence and stupidity, but the rest of the workers are no better - they panic in any emergency situation, whether it is a radioactive release or regular fire drills, they conduct cockfights and chess games at the factory instead of work, beat each other with chairs, drink, napping in the workplace and much more. In many episodes, Homer lost his job, or simply did not go there, but later on he again found himself at his workplace.
  • Karl Carlson , along with Lenny, he is not just a colleague of Homer, but also one of his best friends since childhood. He is dark-skinned and has a pleasant appearance, is a Buddhist by religion and has a master 's degree in nuclear physics , loves bowling and drinks at the Mo Tavern . For political reasons, he is liberal , judging by the fact that in one of the episodes he called the talk show Birch Barlow "right nonsense." He once said that he has a family, and that he is the head of Homer (in the 21st season of the 5th series), but most likely this is just a fiction, since Karl has absolutely no control over his words. Lenny and Karl are always shown to be lazy loafers, fluttering with Homer about all kinds of nonsense.
  • Lenford "Lenny" Leonard , a friend and colleague of Homer. It has a nasal voice. A native of Chicago , he is single, a Buddhist by religion, usually dressed in a simple way, although he sometimes looks very attractive (and even got into the photo report printed on the pages of the New Yorker magazine), and despite his master's degree, is rather stupid. When Homer lied to his family that Lenny was ill, Marge , Bart and Lisa were very upset. With Karl, they are best friends in life and Lenny simply adores Karl. Karl is more important in their friendship, and mainly encourages Lenny's relaxation.
  • Charlie wearing glasses. Hazardous Emissions Inspector. Always quiet, and doing business in the background, after working with friends, he goes to the Mo Tavern .
  • Frank Grime Grimes , hired by the Executive Vice President, and almost immediately transferred to Sector 7-G. Being a man who has pulled himself out of the bottom, thanks to patience and diligence, he is enraged by Homer's constant mistakes, both personally and professionally, and his successes (flying into space, winning a Grammy , etc.) , freak out of himself. The attempt to become like Homer ended in the ridiculous death of Frank from electric shock. His son, Frank Grimes, Jr., attempted to avenge Homer for the death of his father.
  • Mindy Simmons , an attractive young woman, one of the few female representatives at the station, (voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer ). She is an engineer and owner of a motorcycle. During a joint business trip to the State Capital , she almost had an affair with Homer. Some time after Homer's failure, Mindy was fired from the factory due to alcohol addiction . However, she stands in a crowd of factory workers buying food from the Fleet-a-Pita van in The Twisted World of Marge Simpson (11 episode 8 season).
  • Jack Marley , one of the oldest workers, was retired against his will. He can still be seen in the vicinity of the city, as well as in the jury .
  • Thugs and Smashers , hired thugs.
  • An unnamed inspector , father of Sherry and Terry (surname unknown), former Homer controller.
  • An unnamed inspector , Homer notes that he never saw this guy at work.
  • Carol , from accounting.
  • Mike , a married trucker.
  • Miss Finch , a woman, is one of those whom Homer mistook for a man when he tried to find a boyfriend for Selma in the episode “ Principal Charming ”.
  • Tibor , Homer's colleague, occasionally becomes his boss, and Homer often thanks him for "saving his ass." acts as a scapegoat, after everyone found out that he does not speak English.
  • An unnamed worker, whose arm has increased hundreds of times after exposure to radioactive waste.
  • Zutroi , Hazardous Emissions Inspector, hired by Charlie.
  • Canary M. Burns , a canary , at one time instead of Mr. Burns, was the legal owner of the station at the time of the prosecution. Now lives in the Canaries .
  • Unknown , shepherd , heroic dog that saved the child, and appointed vice president instead of Frank Grimes.
  • Queenie , a chicken, Homer’s interim deputy.
  • Blinky , a three-eyed blinking fish, the result of the release of radioactive waste, is a kind of mascot of both the station and the animated series itself.
  • The graphite rod , which received the title "Worker of the Week" after it was received in turn by everyone except Homer. He became famous after Homer prevented a catastrophe in outer space with his help, using it as a heck on a door that suddenly opened. For his heroism, he was called Time magazine "the man of the year."
  • Brick , brick on a rope tied to a lever, another Homer deputy in service.
  • Bernie , a station worker who, along with Homer and another unnamed employee, looked at a bee in a bank in the basement during an inspection.
  • Marge Simpson , who worked at the station with Homer, when they urgently needed money to repair the foundation.
  • Smitty , an unknown colleague of Homer, whom he advises to “beware” in the episode “ Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk ”.
  • Katie , from the human resources department, looks like a female version of Mr. Burns
  • Also at the station there are many robots that have emotions and feelings. Homer had to fire 47 robots when he became the owner of the station, and he had to watch them cry.
  • The Brazilian National Football Team , which had to work at the station, as their plane crashed over Mr. Burns’s property.
  • To win the competition against the Shelbyville Nuclear Power Station baseball team, Mr. Burns hired several professional baseball players.

Characters / Companies Associated with the Station

Some security inspectors and immigration inspectors visit the station from time to time with checks.

  • The Blue-Haired Lawyer , the head of Mr. Burns’s team of lawyers.
  • Aristotle "Ari" Amadupolos , owner of the Shelbyville Nuclear Power Plant.
  • Smilin 'Joe Fission , an animated character representing atomic energy in atomic energy propaganda films for children. He wears a cowboy hat and speaks with a Texas accent.
  • Hans, Fritz and Horst , representatives of the German concern, who at one time owned the station, when Montgomery Burns decided to become a pensioner.
  • Mother Burns , 122 years old Burns mother from the south.
  • Larry Burns , the illegitimate son of Monty Burns. Born in 1940 , and grew up in hardship.
  • Lily Bancroft , daughter of Mr. Burns' classmate at Yale University and the mother of his illegitimate son Larry.
  • Waylon Smithers - senior , the first assistant to Mr. Burns, and father of Waylon Smithers - younger. He died trying to prevent a radioactive release, protecting his son and city.
  • Frank Grimes, the youngest , illegitimate son of Frank Grimes.
  • The wealthy Texan temporarily owned the station after defeating Mr. Burns in a duel.

Interesting Facts

  • A crow croak is heard almost always when the station is shown.
  • At the station there is a map of the USA , on which the status of the remaining power plants in the country is shown with light bulbs. One of Homer's tasks is to change blown bulbs.
  • The wall opposite which Homer sits in different episodes looks different. Sometimes a huge window is built into it, through which the tubes of the reactor are visible, sometimes an electrified card, sometimes just a wall, and sometimes a wall with a board that says "Do not forget: you are here forever." When Homer had only two children and paid off all his debts, he quit his job and got a job at bowling with Uncle Barney, instead of Barney himself (the BEST place of work in his opinion, where he can also polish his bald head for free). Then Marge became pregnant, and Homer had to return to work at the nuclear power plant with humiliation. Mr. Burns hung this inscription on the wall, but when Meggie was born, Homer, using her photographs, corrected the inscription to "Don't forget: you're here for her."
  • The condition of the station has noticeably worsened in recent years. In one of the first episodes, Smithers notes that to bring the station back to normal, you need to spend 56 million dollars, but later, when the Germans bought it, they found out that the price of modernization had risen to 100 million.
  • If you believe the comments on one of the seasons on DVD, there is a real Homer Simpson working at a nuclear power plant. It is not clear whether this is true or not, since there are no other sources of information.

Future

The episodes of Future-Drama and Lisa's Wedding reveal that in the future, the station will increase the number of cooling towers (and possibly reactors) from two to at least five, most likely due to the fact that the population of Springfield (or energy consumption) will increase significantly.

It is also revealed to us that in the future, Lenny and Karl will be included in the executive board of the station, and Milhouse Van Houten will become the controller. Mostly robots will work at the station, but Homer Simpson will retain his place in the 7G sector.

It is unclear whether this future is determined, or is it just the assumptions of Professor Frink's time machine, or the predictions of a fair fortune teller.
