Samuel Adekugbe ( born Samuel A. "Sam" Adekugbe ; born January 16, 1995 in London , England ) is a Canadian footballer of Nigerian descent, defender of the Gothenburg club and the Canadian national team .

Club career
Adecugbe's parents are British of Nigerian descent. Samuel was born in London, but at the age of 10, he immigrated with his parents from England to Canada. In 2011, Adecugbe was admitted to the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy. On October 28, 2013, in his match against Colorado Rapids , he made his debut in MLS [2] . In 2015, Samuel won the Canadian Championship . In the summer of 2016, to get gaming practice, Adekugbe on a rental basis moved to English, Brighton and Hove Albion . On August 9, in the English League Cup match against Colchester United , he made his debut for a new club [3] . On August 23, in a League Cup match against Oxford United , Samuel scored his first goal for Brighton [4] . On January 14, in his match against Preston North End , he made his debut in the Championship [5] .
In the summer of 2017, Sam went on loan to the Swedish Gothenburg .
International Career
In 2015, Adekugbe was included in the application for the Canadian youth team to participate in the CONCACAF Youth Cup in Jamaica . In the tournament, he played in matches against the youth teams of Cuba [6] , Mexico [7] , Honduras [8] and Haiti [9] .
On September 9, 2015, in the qualifying match of the 2018 World Cup against the Belize national team, Adekugbe made his debut for the Canadian national team [10] .
In 2017, Adekugbe was included in the application for the national team to participate in the CONCACAF Gold Cup . At the tournament, he played in matches against the teams of Costa Rica [11] and Honduras [12] .
