Achtköpfigertaler ( German: Achtköpfigertaler ) is a variation of the 1723 family Reichstaller of the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg . It got its name because of the image of the ruling Duke Frederick II (1691-1732) on the obverse and his seven sons on the reverse [1] . Images of the Princes Friedrich (1699-1772), (1701-1777), Johann Augustus (1704-1767), Christian Wilhelm (1706-1748), Ludwig Ernst (1707-1763), Moritz (1711-1777) and (1721-1799) are located in ovals of palm branches. In the center is the heir to the throne, the future Duke Frederick III. The circular inscription “SEPTENARIVS FRATRVM ET DVCVM SAXONIAE” means “seven brothers and rulers of Saxony” [2] .

Circular inscription on the obverse "FRIDERICVS II. DG DVX. SAXO = GOTHANVS ”means“ Frederick II, by the grace of God the ruler of Saxe-Gotha. ” Under the portrait of the duke are the words “CARI GENITORIS IMAGO”, which in free translation from Latin sounds like “Dear faces of the parent” [2] . Directly below the portrait is a small letter “K.” It denotes the sign of the medalist master Johann Christian Koch [2] [3] .
The Ahtköpfigertalers minted for only one year [4] . At their core, they were Reichstalers, which, according to the Augsburg coin charter, should contain 1 ⁄ 9 Cologne grade pure silver [5] . This corresponded to 29.23 g of silver 889 samples, or 25.98 g of pure silver [6] . At the same time, coins were issued with an absolutely identical image with a face value of 1½ thaler [7] .
