Parascariosis is a chronic infectious disease of horses and donkeys, which is caused by the parasitic worms of the Ascaridae family of the Ascaridata contract and is characterized by disorders of the digestive and respiratory systems. [one]
Life cycle
The parasite is a geohelminth.
Eggs are released from an infected animal with feces and matures in the ground.
Infection occurs through the ingestion of mature eggs with feed or water. [2] Thanks to the protective membranes, the helminths pass through the gastric juice and enter the duodenum unharmed. Here the larvae come out of the egg, which injure the intestinal mucosa and enter the bloodstream. With the passage of blood, they pass through the liver and right ventricle of the heart until they enter the lungs.
Using oxygen , the larvae develop to mature individuals in 2-3 months.
After that, the parasite mechanically irritates the nerve endings, causes coughing and rises in the throat. Here, ingested into the gastrointestinal tract and returned to the intestine. Here, the helminth parasitizes for several more years, breeding and eating the host's food. [one]
Diagnosis: Clinical signs characteristic of parascariosis, do not give reason to make a diagnosis of this disease, as they are not specific enough. For the exact definition of the disease, special helminthological studies are necessary. For this purpose, helmintoscopy can be used. [3]
