Visual and measuring control (VIC) - One of the methods of non - destructive testing , primarily based on the capabilities of vision, the test object is examined in visible radiation. The control is carried out using the simplest measuring tools such as: magnifying glass , tape measure , UShS , vernier caliper , etc. Using it you can detect: corrosion damage , cracks , flaws in the material and surface treatment, etc. Also carried out using optical instruments , which allows significantly expand the limits of the natural capabilities of the eye [1] .
Visual and measuring control of, for example, polymeric and composite materials, welded joints , structures and technical devices is carried out with the requirements of specially developed documentation, an example is RD 03-606-03. The instructions are based on safety rules approved by Rostekhnadzor [1] .
Content
Scope
- At the stage of input control to detect surface defects of the material ( cracks , delaminations, nicks, slag inclusions, shells, etc.), as well as deviations of the geometric dimensions of the workpieces from the original ones [2] .
- In the preparation of parts for assembly and welding [2] .
- After the end of welding, or at certain stages, to detect surface defects and discontinuities in the weld (shells, pores , fistulas, undercuts, burns, sagging, etc.), as well as when the weld deviates from the requirements established by the standards [2] .
- At the stage of technical diagnosis [2] .
Benefits
A simple and informative control method that does not require any expensive equipment or special skills. Fairly high speed [1] .
Weaknesses
Limited research only the visible part of the design [1] .
For visual and measuring control apply
- patterns
- micrometer and indicator calipers
- line measures of length
- loops
- squares
- gauges
- endoscopes
- goniometers with nonius
- probes
- vernier calipers
- thickness gauges
- micrometers
- calibration plates
Allowed the use of other means of visual and measuring control, subject to the availability of methods for their application and relevant instructions [2] .
