Biography

Gennady Stepanovich Solodov was born on October 6, 1934 in the city of Kurgan, Chelyabinsk Region , now the administrative center of the Kurgan Region [2] .

He studied at the Kurgan school number 12, then - at the Railway School number 1 , where physical education was taught by Albert Fedorovich Karpov , who later became Gennady's walking race coach [3] . From 1952 to 1953, Solodov worked as a turner at the Kurgan Meat Processing Plant . From 1953 to 1956 he served in the Soviet Army .

In 1958, speaking at the championship of the CS DSO "Spartak" in Gorky, he passed the test in the first category, and the Kurgan region took the third place. In the same year, at the Games of the Peoples of the USSR in Leningrad, speaking for the 50 km race team of Russia, it took the sixth place with a result of 4 hours and 18 minutes. and complied with the standard master of sports of the USSR.

In 1959 he entered the evening department at the Omsk State Institute of Physical Culture , and at the same time began to work as a ski coach.

From 1959 to 1968 he was a member of the USSR national team in race walking. In 1962 in London at the match of the USSR - England took the third place. From 1976 he lived in Sochi , then moved to Rudny (Kazakhstan) [4] . In 1999, at the invitation of the Minister of Sports of the Chuvash Republic, he and his family moved to Cheboksary and began working as a coach at the Republican school of walking.
