Benjamin Gonson ( born Benjamin Gonson ; 1514 [3] , Great Worley, Essex , England - 1577 [4] , ibid.) - the first surveyor of the Royal Navy of England (from April 24, 1546 ), one of the founders and member Naval Council of England ( Eng. Navy Board ). He was one of the top officials of the British Admiralty .

The son of Vice Admiral Sir William Gonson. He served as surveyor from 1546 to 1549, passing this post to Admiral Sir William Winter.
In 1560, he was a shareholder organized by his son-in-law, navigator and future admiral John Hawkins , the first expedition to Africa and Spanish America.
