Biography

He was born on April 11, 1945 in the village of Kalinovka in the Vitovsky district of the Nikolaev region of the Ukrainian SSR. [2]

He graduated from the Odessa Conservatory , where he studied with Olga Blagovidova . [3]

In 1974 he received the first prize in the competition named after P.I. Tchaikovsky . [3] From the same year - soloist of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater . Since 1981 - soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine in Kiev .

For some time he worked as a teacher at the Tchaikovsky National Academy in Kiev , one of his students was bass Evgeny Orlov. [four]

He was awarded the Order of Merit III (2001) [5] , II (2015) [6] and I (2019) [7] degrees.

Creativity

Among the many parties Ponomarenko is especially famous:

  • Eugene Onegin (" Eugene Onegin " by Tchaikovsky);
  • Dirty (The Tsar’s Bride by Rimsky-Korsakov);
  • Ostap ( Taras Bulba Lysenko);
  • Nabucco (Verdi's Nabucco );
  • Rigoletto ( Vergo Rigoletto ), Georges Germont (Verdi's La Traviata ), Amonasro (Verdi's Aida ).

Ivan Ponomarenko became the first Ukrainian singer to perform in the Republic of South Africa - in the early 1990s in Johannesburg and Pretoria he performed leading baritone roles in Verdi's operas Rigoletto and Aida, as well as in Mascagni's opera Rural Honor . [8]
