Publication History

Amora's first appearance in the Marvel universe took place in J ourney Into Mystery # 103 (1964), where she failed in an attempt to take Thor away from Jane Foster .

The second Enchantress, Sylvia, first appeared in Dark Reign Young Avengers # 1 (2009), as an adversary of the Young Avengers.

Fictional Biography

Little is known about the origin of Amora, except that she was born in Asgard and that she has a sister named Lorelei. At a young age, Amora began to study magic under the guidance of Carnilla. However, they soon refused to train her because she was too undisciplined. But this did not stop the young sorceress and she continued to study magic on her own, seducing other wizards and forcing them to reveal her ancient secrets to her. Over time, Amora became one of the most powerful sorceresses in all of Asgard. Amora was also very skilled in using her charm and ability to manipulate others to achieve her.

At the first appearance, Odin instructed her to eliminate Thor's love interest for a girl from Earth, which Odin sees as a distraction from his goals. In addition, she hoped to get the Mighty Thor for herself. She was assisted by the powerful Skurge, better known as the Executioner. The executioner loved the Enchantress, however, she simply used it with the help of her female cunning, as a striking force. Amora helped Loki by attempting to seduce Thor in his civilian identity, Donald Blake, while sending the executioner to kill Jane Foster . However, although the Executioner managed to trap Foster in another dimension, Thor returned it, giving Skurge his hammer. Enraged at Skerge because of Jane's return, Amora decided to turn Skerge into a tree, but he freed Thor from the contract in exchange for his help. Amora then tried to turn Thor's hammer into a snake, but he was immune to her magic. Ultimately, Thor moved both back to Asgard [1] .

Strengths and Abilities

The enchantress is a member of the superhuman race known as Asgardians, possessing superhuman strength, speed, endurance and strength, but she prefers to avoid physical collisions. Amora has the innate ability to control the surrounding magical energy, which she can use to create various effects, including interdimensional teleportation of several Asgardians or non-Asgardians, the creation of protective energy shields, illusions, liberation, create various spells, transform various creatures into anything (even Asgardians), telekinesis, the curvature of time and control of consciousness. She used her magic to enhance her natural beauty and charm, and if she kisses almost any person, he becomes her slave within a week if she does not free him. She can also use her magic to heal any wounds very quickly. In addition, due to the absorption of the enemy’s life force, Amor is able to temporarily increase his own forces. In the event of a prolonged absence in Asgard, her powers decrease, although they never disappear completely. The enchantress is described as one of the most powerful sorceresses in Asgard, second only to Karnille, [2] however each of their confrontations ended in the weakening of both [3] . However, Amora’s sister, Lorelei, soon went beyond her own abilities [4] . The enchantress has a gifted intellect, and has extensive knowledge in the field of Asgardian mythology and love spells. In some cases, the Enchantress uses various mystical artifacts, potions, and sources of power, for example, the crystalline gem in which the soul of Brunnhild is located, and she used a potion to increase the hypnotic influence over Thor in Avengers # 7 comic. It has been shown that the Enchantress is not able to use her spells when her hands are tied and a gag is in her mouth [5] .

When the Punisher kills Electra , the Enchantress sends a spell on Daredevil, as a result of which the incoming sounds are amplified so that the head of the superhero explodes [7] .

Thor's board

In an alternate future where Thor seems to have conquered Earth for the common good, Amora becomes his wife and they have a baby named Magni. Subsequently, Thor realizes that his actions were immoral and goes to the past to change the future, which leads to the disappearance of his family [8] .

Although they manage to defeat superheroes, the team soon returns for revenge [9] . Thanks to the Hawkeye, they are freed from Amora's spells when he shoots directly at her, practically killing the Enchantress and interrupting her control [10] .
