San Giorgio-style landing docks [1] [2] [3] were built by Fincantieri for the Italian fleet. These ships can carry a battalion of marines and up to 36 armored vehicles. Aft flooded dock can accommodate three landing barges. Ships are based at the Brindisi Naval Base on the Adriatic coast.
San Giorgio and San Marco have been significantly upgraded to accommodate a through flight deck with four landing points. San Giusto , the third ship of the series, has not been modified since construction, but from the very beginning it had an improved design. It is usually used as a training ship [3] .
