The USSR Women's Chess Championship 1968 - the twenty-eighth USSR Women's Chess Championship. Passed from November 1 to December 3 in Ashgabat .

Final - 20 participants. Procedure: 2 semifinals - Vilnius, Tyumen (2 winners each were allowed to the finals) and RSFSR championships (3 chess players were allowed to the finals), the Ukrainian SSR, the Georgian SSR, Moscow and Leningrad (2 each). According to the results of the 27th national championship, the champion of the USSR M. Rannik, as well as N. Konopleva, K. Skegin and A. Tchaikovsky were admitted to the finals; on the candidate list - T. Zatulovskaya.

Successfully started R. Bilunova (6½ points out of 7); N. Alexandria was the leader from the 8th round, then, having won 5 games in a row, Konopleva. Before the last round, Alexandria, Konopleva and Tchaikovsky each had 12½ points. Having won the games of the last round, Alexandria and Tchaikovsky shared 1-2 places, gaining 13½ points; 3rd place at Runniku - 13 points.

An additional match for the title of champion of the country was won by Alexandria - 3½: ½.
