General Information
The founder of the “House of the Deaf-Blind” is a non-profit organization - the interregional public organization of persons with disabilities “The Society for the Social Support of the Deaf-blind” Elvira . President of OSPSG "Elvira" is Sirotkin Sergey Alekseevich, Ph.D., blind and deaf, disabled I gr. visually (and hearing). The executive director of the “Elvira” society and the confessor of the “House of the blind and deaf” is priest Lev Arshakyan. “House of the Deaf-Blind” is a charity project without state participation, it has been successfully implemented since 2013. Deaf-blind people do not live in the “House of the Deaf-blind” all the time, but come to study for a period of 1-2 months.
Training Program
The blind and deaf wards of the “House of the Deaf-Blind” are trained in 4 main programs:
- Braille alphabet - the main tool for reading and writing, invented by a blind young man, Louis Braille in the 19th century, especially for blind people.
- Computer literacy . Thanks to modern technologies, such as the Braille computer console, a deaf and blind person can use a computer and mobile gadgets without any problems. This leads him out of isolation and opens up the whole world for him.
- Social adaptation . Training in household skills, cooking, orientation in space and so on.
- Training in applied crafts and creativity .
In addition, people with disabilities in the “House of the Deaf-blind” receive psychological and spiritual assistance, go on excursions and various cultural events, and undergo physical health programs.
