Biography
Artashes Martirosovich Mezhlumyan was born on November 9 (22), 1901 in the village of Novruzlu of the Erivan province of the Russian Empire (now part of the city of Artashat of the Republic of Armenia ) [2] , in the family of a working peasant [3] . He graduated from high school [4] .
From 1924 to 1931, Artashes Mezhlumyan worked in the Kamarlinsky district of the Armenian SSR (hereinafter referred to as the Artashat region ): he was chairman of the board of cooperative agricultural associations of gardeners and Chigdamlu [2] . In 1924-1933 he also held the post of Secretary of the Village Council [5] . In 1927 he joined the CPSU (b) / CPSU [2] . In 1933, Mezhlumyan entered the Yerevan Veterinary Zootechnical Institute , which he graduated in 1937 [5] .
In 1937, after graduating, Artashes Mezhlumyan was sent to the Dilijan region of the Armenian SSR , where he received the position of chief livestock specialist of the agricultural department of the executive committee of the Dilijan district council, and later was the head of the agricultural department [6] . In 1940, Mezhlumyan went to the newly created Berievsky ( Shaumyanovsky ) district of the Armenian SSR from 1953, becoming the main livestock specialist of the agricultural department of the executive committee of the Berievsky district council (hereinafter - the Shaumyanovsky district department of agriculture and harvesting of the Armenian SSR) [7] . As the main livestock specialist, Artashes Mezhlumyan directed his efforts towards the development of animal husbandry in the newly created area. Introducing scientific methods, Mezhlumyan was able to develop a breed of local livestock, improving the quality of care for them and creating a stable fodder base [8] .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 16, 1953 for achieving high rates in animal husbandry in 1951, when the plan for delivering agricultural products to the state for compulsory supplies, contracting, in kind payment for the work of the MTS and overfulfillment of the annual plan for the increase in the number of livestock for each species was met in the whole region no less than 30 percent of livestock and poultry, 35 percent overfulfillment in the district as a whole of planned targets for milk production, 17 percent shear of wool, 46 percent of feeding and fattening of livestock Artashes Ma Rtirosovich Mezhlumyan was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal "Hammer and Sickle" [1] .
In 1952, Artashes Mezhlumyan became chairman of the board of the Stalin collective farm (later named after the XXII Congress of the CPSU ) of the Shaumyan district of the Armenian SSR [2] . Having directed the work of collective farmers to improving the quality of field cultivation and horticulture , after a short period of time, crop yields were significantly increased [9] . By 1959, compared with 1952, the grape yield from each hectare of land was increased by 93.8, and the yield of various vegetables - by 189.5 centners [8] . During the leadership of Mezhlumyan, in order to develop animal husbandry, the collective farm began growing corn and alfalfa , which created its own forage base. Along with this, much attention was paid to the construction of cribs and the mechanization of labor-intensive processes in collective farm farms. As a result, the production of milk, meat and eggs was increased [10] . For these services, Mezhlumyan was awarded the honorary title of Honored Breeder of the Armenian SSR. He led the collective farm until his retirement in 1971 [2] .
Artashes Mezhlumyan was also actively involved in public work. He was elected to the Council of the Union of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR V convocation [11] .
Artashes Martirosovich Mezhlumyan died in 1986 in Yerevan . He was buried at the Shaumyanovsky cemetery of Yerevan [12] .
