Santa rosa del sur

The settlement, from which the city later grew up, was founded in 1540 by Alfonso Ramirez de Orellano, however, actively the neighborhood of the city began to be settled only in 1940. The municipality of Santa Rosa del Sur was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1984 .

The city is located in the southern part of the department, in the eastern foothills of the Central Cordillera ridge, approximately 308 kilometers southeast of the city of Cartagena , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 610 meters above sea ​​level ^[1] .
The municipality of Santa Rosa del Sur borders in the north with the territory of the municipality of Morales , in the west with the municipality of Montecristo , in the southeast with the municipality of San Pablo , in the east with the municipality of Simiti , in the south with the territory of the Antioquia department. The area of ​​the municipality is 2360 km² ^[2] .

According to the 2005 census, men made up 52.7% of the population of Santa Rosa del Sur, women - respectively 47.3%. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 95.5% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 4.4%; Indians - 0.1% ^[4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 83.5%.
