The youngest (third) son of Don Nicolas Gereda ( 1916 - 1991 ) and Donja Maria Louise de Bourbon and Pinto (born 1918 ), the only daughter of Alberto Maria de Bourbon and d'Ast, 2nd Duke of Santa Elena (1883-1959) . Carlos Gereda and de Bourbon is the great-great-great-grandson of King Charles IV of Spain [1] .

Carlos Gereda and de Bourbon has been the Grand Master of the Maltese (Spanish) branch of the Order of St. Lazarus since October 12, 2008 [2] , after the resignation of two rivals, the Duke of Seville and the Duke of Brissac .

Early life

Don Carlos Gereda was born in Uruguay , where his parents moved after the Spanish Civil War to manage the estate they inherited.

Through his maternal grandfather Alberto Maria de Bourbon and d'Ast, 2nd Duke of Santa Elena (1883-1959), Carlos Gereda is connected with the Spanish Royal Bourbon family , being the sixth cousin of the current King of Spain, Philip VI [3] .

Don Carlos spent his early childhood in Spain before going to Ladycross Preparatory School in Sussex ( England ). He then attended Downside School in Somerset , then studied Industrial Engineering at Complutense University of Madrid .

On February 15, 1975, he married Donja Maria las Nieves Castellano and Baron, the 15th Marquise de Almazan (born September 24, 1947), the daughter of the 4th Marquise Montemolin and Countess de Trastamara and de Priego. The generic title of Marquis de Almazan was created in 1575 by the King of Spain, Philip II .

Career

In 1975, Don Carlos began his career in business as a commercial entrepreneur, his work gave him the opportunity to travel the world from the Far East to South America and Central Europe . He and his wife lived in Buenos Aires from 1979 to 1986 , where they still work for the oil company.

Don Carlos participated in the creation of the Museum of Science and Leisure in Malaga ( Spain ) [4] , with the goal of turning it into one of the most important museums in Southern Europe .

He died of cancer on August 29, 2017 [5] .
