Game career
Vaakanainen began his career with the Espoo Blues youth team. In the 2015-2016 season, Urho made his debut for Espoo Blues on a professional level, gaining 6 points in 25 matches in the Finnish Hockey League . On April 28, 2016, Vaakanainen signed a one-year contract with the UP club.
In the 2016-2017 season, Urho became the main player in the UP and played 41 matches, gaining 6 points. He also made 3 assists in 14 playoff matches, but his team lost in the semifinals to KalPa in seven matches.
On May 5, 2017, Vaakanainen left UP and signed a new one-year contract with the Saip team [1] . On June 23, 2017, in the 2017 NHL draft, Urho was selected in the 1st round under the overall 18th number of the NHL club “ Boston Bruins ” [2] .
On June 13, 2018, Vaakanainen signed a three-year rookie contract with the Boston Bruins. [3]
