History

The construction of the monument was dedicated to the 800th anniversary of the birth of Daniil Romanovich in 2001. An All-Ukrainian competition was organized, in which many artists and sculptors took part [2] .

During the competition, more than 20 projects of the monument were considered, which were submitted to the competition anonymously, under the mottos. All projects were exhibited in the Lviv Palace of Arts for the court of spectators - professionals and amateurs, many different options and proposals were taken into account [2] .

The authoritative jury opted for the composition of the authors' group of sculptors Vasily Yarich, Roman Romanovich and architect Yerema Churilik, who became the winners of the competition [2] .

The winning project is a young warrior raised on stirrups, a wise and warlike prince who successfully reflects the historical era as a whole [2] .

A 5-meter sculpture in bronze was cast in a short time: the Lviv Ceramics and Sculpture Factory took over the production of the monument [2] .
