The Institute of Hydrogeology and Geoecology named after U. M. Akhmedsafin (formerly the Institute of Hydrogeology and Hydrophysics named after U. M. Akhmedsafin ) is a Soviet and Kazakhstani institute. Organized in 1965 on the basis of the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of the Institute of Geological Sciences. K. I. Satpayev and the Department of hydrogeology and hydrothermal KazIMS State Geological Committee of the USSR. Currently, the Institute is a subsidiary of the National Science and Technology Holding "Parasat".

The Institute is conducting major fundamental and regional applied research in the field of establishing patterns of formation and placement of various types of groundwater , identifying significant groundwater resources, developing new methods for their assessment, hydrogeological stratification and mapping, predicting technogenic hydrogeological processes using modern methods of chemical analysis of water, and also modeling and the latest computer and GIS technologies. The Institute carries out commercial projects for the assessment of groundwater reserves.

History
The Institute of Hydrogeology and Hydrophysics named after U.M. Akhmedsafin was organized by the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR in 1965 on the basis of the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of the Institute of Geological Sciences named after K.I.Satpayev and the Department of Hydrogeology and Hydrothermics of the KazIMS of the USSR State Committee for Geology .
In 1985, the Institute was named after U. M. Akhmedsafin - Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Kazakh SSR, Hero of Socialist Labor , the first director and founder of the Kazakhstan Hydrogeological Scientific School.
In 2007, the Institute of Hydrogeology and Hydrophysics was renamed the Institute of Hydrogeology and Geoecology.
The orders of JSC TsNZMO No. 133 dated October 22, 2007, established a limited liability partnership , the Institute of Hydrogeology and Geoecology named after U. M. Akhmedsafin, as part of the Joint-Stock Company Center for Earth, Metallurgy and Enrichment Sciences.
