Woolsley [1] ( African and eng. Wolseley ) —city in the southwest of the Republic of South Africa , in the territory of the Western Cape . Included in the Cape Vinelands area . It is part of the local municipality of Witsenberch . It consists of three parts: actually Woolsley, Pine Valley and Montana.

Content
History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded in 1875 on the lands of Goedgevonden Farm . In 1955, Woolsley received the status of a municipality . The name of the city is associated with the name of Garnet Woolsley (1833-1913), commander of the British forces in the Anglo-Zulu war [2] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the western part of the province, in the Breede River Valley (Brie), at a distance of approximately 51 kilometers (in a straight line) northeast of Cape Town , the provincial capital. The absolute height is 267 meters above sea level [3] .
Climate
The climate of the city is subtropical Mediterranean . The average annual rainfall is 575 mm. Most rainfall occurs between April and October . The average maximum air temperature varies from 16.7 ° C (in July) to 29.7 ° C (in February). The coldest month of the year is July . The average minimum night temperature for this month is 4.7 ° C [4] .
Population
According to the 2001 official census , the population was 8188 people, of which men were 50%, women were also 50%, respectively. In racial terms, color made up 75.16% of the city's population, blacks - 12.86%, white - 11.94%, Asians (including Indians ) - 0.04%. The most common languages among the townspeople were: Afrikaans (90.02%), braid (8.37%), English (0.77%) and Sesotho (0.44%) [5] .
According to data obtained during the official census of 2011 , the total population of Woolsley, Pine Valley and Montana was 12,130 people, of whom 48.81% were men, 51.19% were women, respectively. In racial terms, color made up 73.86% of the population of the city, blacks - 15.96%; white - 8.02%; Asians (including Indians) - 0.34%, representatives of other races - 1.82%. The most common languages among the inhabitants of the city were: Afrikaans (82.67%), braid (8.8%), Sesoto (3.27%), English (1.53%) and Tswana (0.38%) [6] [7] [8] .
