Early biography

In 1073 , after the father’s oratory in Kiev , he received Pereyaslavl , but after the death of his father in 1076 he was forced to leave, together with other Svyatoslavichs, in one of the distant estates of the princes of Chernigov - Murom . After the death of Izyaslav Yaroslavich in the battle for Chernigov ( 1078 ) Vsevolod Yaroslavich moved to Kiev, but Chernigov retained through his son Vladimir .

In 1093 , after the death of Vsevolod Yaroslavich of Kiev, the chronicle finds Davyd the Novgorod prince (instead of Mstislav Vladimirovich ). After the capture of Chernigov by his brother Oleg Davyd ( 1094 ), Davyd came to Smolensk , but in his absence the Novgorodians returned Mstislav Vladimirovich from Rostov [3] . In the war that followed Oleg’s exile from Chernigov by Svyatopolk and Monomakh ( 1096 ), Oleg used Smolensk troops against the sons of Monomakh over Ryazan, Mur, Rostov and Suzdal.

In 1097, he took part in the Lubech Congress of Princes, where the princes proclaimed: "Let everyone keep his fatherland." By decision of the congress, Chernigov was approved for it.

Chernigov reign

In November 1097, after the blinding of Vasilko Terebovlsky by Davyd Igorevich Volyn in Kiev, Davyd Svyatoslavich with Oleg and Vladimir came to Kiev. Svyatopolk managed to make peace with them, after which he launched an attack on Davyd Igorevich, and then on the Rostislavichi. In 1097, Svyatoslav Davydovich participated in an unsuccessful battle on the Rozhny field on the side of Svyatopolk. The son of Davyd Svyatoslavich suffered another defeat from Davyd Igorevich, who reconciled with the Rostislavichs. Having made peace, Svyatoslav returned to his father.

In 1100, Davyd Svyatoslavich participated in the congress in Uvetichi , where the princes gathered for the trial of Davyd Igorevich. The latter lost Vladimir-Volynsky, and in return received Dorogobuzh , Buzhsk, Dubno and Chartoryysk, and from Davyd and Oleg Svyatoslavich - a hundred hryvnias in silver as a reward for Vladimir-Volynsky .

In 1101, Davyd in alliance with Volodar Rostislavich went to the Poles.

Davyd was among the participants of the Dolob Princely Congress (1103) and the main leaders of the anti-Polovtsian campaigns at the beginning of the XII century ( 1103 , 1107 , 1110 , 1111 ). In 1116, the sons of Monomakh and Davyd again defeated the towns under the control of the Polovtsian upper Donets , and half of the Sharukan horde went to the Caucasus.

The death of David Svyatoslavich

After the death in 1113 of Svyatopolk Izyaslavich, the reign of Kiev according to the current order was supposed to go to Davyd, but this did not happen. Not even a conflict is known about Davyd with Monomakh.

In 1115, Davyd participated in the campaign of Yaropolk Vladimirovich to Drutsk against Prince of Minsk Gleb Vseslavich . Together with Yaropolk Vladimirovich they took Drutsk with an attack. Gleb, besieged in Minsk by Vladimir Monomakh, surrendered. In 1118 he went with Vladimir Monomakh and Volodar and Vasilk Rostislavich to Vladimir-Volyn prince Yaroslav Svyatopolchich . After a two-month siege, Yaroslav surrendered.
