The 420th Special Purpose Long-Range Bomber Aviation Regiment (420 dbap) is a military unit of the USSR Armed Forces in the Great Patriotic War . He was part of the 81st long-range bomber aviation division . He took part in the bombing of Berlin on August 10, 1941. At the time of formation, he was armed with 40 heavy bombers of the EP-2 .

History
It was formed at the beginning of the war, originally based in Kazan [1] . Already on June 24, the regiment was transferred to Voronezh, where it receives the first EP-2. The regiment is equipped with a flight crew of the 100th infantry brigade and civilian air fleet .
Participated on August 10 in an air raid on Berlin. In late August, from the Ramenskoye airfield, the regiment bombed Koenigsberg . In the second half of August, as part of the Moscow Military District, it is based on the Kirzhach airfield. In September, Vitebsk and Roslavl are bombed. He took part in the battle for Moscow in October-November 1941. October 6 bombing a German column near Spas-Demensky (Smolensk region).
In late October, enemy columns are bombarded daily on the Vyazma - Gzhatsk section. In early November, the regiment transfers the remainder of the materiel to 421 dbap . 12/03/1941 turned to the formation of the 748th long-range aviation regiment .

Memory
In 2016, according to the results of geophysical work (on strong magnetic and GPR anomalies) at the site of the crash of the Er-2 plane into the Ugra river near the village of Natalinka ( 7 km from Yukhnov in the Kaluga region), six large fragments were lifted by divers, including the chassis, on which determine the serial number of the product. Pilots of the 420th long-range bomber regiment who died on October 7, 1941 controlled the plane:
- pilot (without military rank, seconded from the civilian air fleet) Nikolai Andreyevich Khorpyakov [2]
- flight navigator, senior lieutenant Valentin Mikhailovich Tolokonnikov [2] ,
- air gunner-radio operator, sergeant Ivan Petrovich Okust [3]
- air gunner, Junior Sergeant Stepan Samsonovich Denisenko [4] .
On October 7, 2016, 75 years later, at the memorial complex “Barrow of Glory” near the village of Kolykhmanovo , a memorial sign was opened to the pilots of the Er-2 crew [5] .
