The street passes through 2 districts of the city - Leninsky and Industrialny , from the industrial zone in the north of the city through the sleeping areas to the village of Novosilikatny in the south-west. In the area of Gushchina and Vlasikhinskaya streets, Popova street makes small bends and changes its direction. The longest street of Barnaul, with a length of 10 km. Width - 30 meters. Tram tracks are laid all along the street.
The street got its name in the 70s of the XX century in honor of the Russian scientist, inventor of the radio - A. S. Popov . The construction of the areas adjacent to the street was initially carried out comprehensively: the new quarters of the panel 5 floors of improved " Khrushchevs " were to replace the aging housing stock of Barnaul. In the 1980s, such sleeping areas as Dokuchaevo and Urozhayny appeared with the full range of social institutions needed in the USSR .
Today, Popova Street has an important transport function for intercity communication between industrial zones in the north and west of Barnaul, residential neighborhoods and suburban settlements.
One of the trolleybus routes passes through the street from Baltiyskaya Street to Vzletnaya Street , and a new trolleybus is moving along the street (route No. 7) .
